Hearing Set for Luxury Apartment Project in Overland Park

By Dennis Boone

City planners in Overland Park will have scheduled a Nov. 10 review for a request by EPC Real Estate Group to build 200 luxury apartments and a modest amount of retail space near the city’s Downtown.

The development group, less than year old, is a subsidiary of ePartment Communities, responsible for the 51 Main project south of the Country Club Plaza, as well as the Village at Mission Farms in Leawood, the Doman at Lenexa City Center and other luxury-apartment complexes.

Officials in Overland Park have been weighing whether to approve a tax increment financing district for the $40 million project at 80th and Metcalf Avenue. Roughly 8,500 square feet of retail space would be included in the project, which covers a 4-acre site occupied by older commercial structures that would require some demolition.

Mike McKeen of ePartments said the site and project fit with the company’s strategic vision for high-quality sites that can support higher-density infill projects in walkable communities, with easy access to venues like retail stores and community centers.
